“Reproductive organs have a very important role to support survival as well as being one of the efforts to prevent extinction. However, the female reproductive organs are certainly not the same as the male reproductive organs.

There are two parts to the female reproductive organs that you need to know, namely the inside and outside. As previously mentioned, there are two types of female reproductive organs, namely internal and external organs. The following is an explanation for each part of the organ:

External reproductive organs

The outer female reproductive organs or known as the genitals have the main function as a pathway for sperm to enter. In addition, the outer area of ​​the reproductive organs also protects the internal organs from the dangers of infection. The external reproductive organs include:

1. Labia majora

Labia majora or what is known as big lips are part of the reproductive organs whose job is to protect other external organs. When a woman enters the puberty period, the skin area in this section will grow hair or fur which contains oil glands.

2. Labia minora

Then, the labia minora or what is known as small lips, is a part of the female reproductive organs that has many sizes. This section is right on the inside of the labia majora, surrounding the vagina and the urinary tract or urethra. The skin of the labia minora is very easily irritated because it is delicate and easily swells.

3. Bartholin's glands

Then, the Bartholin glands are located on each side of the vaginal opening. Sections can produce fluid or mucus which functions as a vaginal lubricant.

4. Clitoris

The clitoris is a part of the female reproductive organ which is a small but very sensitive bulge. This section is covered by a fold of skin called the prepuce, very similar to the foreskin that is at the tip of the penis.

The clitoris has a high level of sensitivity to stimulation as well as an erection area. This is why, the clitoris is often one of the areas of female stimulation when having intercourse.

Internal reproductive organs
Furthermore, the internal female reproductive organs consist of:


1. Vaginas

The vagina is a canal that connects the cervix or lower uterus with the outside of the body. This one organ is in the body, precisely behind the bladder and lower than the uterus.

As a female reproductive organ, the vagina has the main function of being a passageway for blood when a woman experiences menstruation, the birth canal for a baby during childbirth, and the passage for sperm to enter the uterus during fertilization.

2. Ovaries

The ovaries, or another name is the ovary, are on the left and right sides of the pelvic cavity, right next to the upper uterus. This part of the female reproductive organ has the main responsibility for producing hormones (progesterone and estrogen) and producing ova or more familiarly known as egg.

3. Fallopian tube

The oviduct or other name for the fallopian tube has a funnel-like shape. Each of these channels extends from the right and left ends of the upper uterus to the end of the ovary.

The function of the fallopian tube is to carry the ovum to the end or infundibulum to the uterus. In addition, the process of fertilization of sperm cells with egg cells also takes place in this section. Furthermore, the fertilized egg will move to be implanted in the lining of the uterus.

4. Uterus or uterus

The uterus or another name for the uterus is a part of the female reproductive organs that has a cavity and is shaped like a pear. The uterus is a home for the growth and development of the fetus with two main parts, namely:

The cervix or cervix,  is located on the underside and is the way to the vagina and corpus, the main body of the uterus.
Corpus,  the part that is flexible because it can develop according to the development of the baby. This section is also a channel for the release of menstrual blood and the entry of sperm.
Not only that, the uterus also helps support the embryo during the early development phase. Meanwhile, the muscles in the uterine wall will contract during normal labor to encourage the fetus to pass through the birth canal.

5. Cervical or cervix

Lastly is the cervix or cervix, the female reproductive organ which has a cylindrical or tube-like shape that connects the uterus and vagina. This organ has two parts, namely the outer wall of the cervix or the ectocervix and the inside or the endocervix.

The cervix will make mucus that changes during menstrual periods. Texture changes in cervical mucus have the goal of helping or preventing pregnancy.

Effect of Diseases of the Female Reproductive Organs on Fertility


Health problems that attack the female reproductive organs can certainly trigger negative effects on fertility. For example, endometriosis, a condition when small parts of the lining of the uterus appear on other parts of the body, such as the ovaries.

This can definitely cause damage to the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and lead to infertility problems. The problem of infertility itself usually occurs due to various abnormalities related to the ovulation process. This is the monthly release of an egg from the ovary.

There are several medical conditions that can stop or even prevent the release of an egg from the ovary. This in turn triggers fertility disorders in the female reproductive system, making it very difficult to get offspring.

You need to know that the female reproductive organs have different functions. Some are tasked with producing egg cells, providing protection and guarding fertilized egg cells, as well as being the birth canal for the baby during the delivery process.
